Seventeen-year old ABBY BERMAN only has one goal for her summer: to prove that she’s fluent enough in French to be accepted into The Paris School, well, that and to get as far away as possible from her baseball-obsessed family in Chicago. But as luck would have it, out of the hundred or so high school students in the summer program, the only other one in the French intensive with Abby is Zeke Martin – a total jock who wears only baseball caps and jerseys. Abby has to spend eight weeks (200 hours of class) speaking to him, including an overnight class trip to Montreal at the end of the summer.

Abby knows all too well how dirty the underbelly of baseball can be. For her, French is the polar opposite: culture, art, history, and architecture. How can she reconcile what she knows about jocks with the fact that Zeke takes their French class as seriously as she does? But Zeke is clearly hiding something. He travels to Boston for doctors’ appointments on an almost daily basis, and he’s fielding tons of private phone calls.

The morning after Abby wakes up in Zeke’s arms during their class trip to Montreal, she posts a picture online of her and Zeke, smiling and posing. Within hours she’s fielding calls from her brothers, eager to hear about her new boyfriend, Ezekiel Martin, top high school pitching prospect, and number one draft choice for the major leagues. She breaks up with him, feeling utterly betrayed. But Googling Zeke one day, she watches his face as he plays the game on Youtube and realizes how she really feels. She only has one big chance to get him back.
