About Us
Deborah moved to Jerusalem from the U.S. in 1979, after working in publishing in New York. She co-founded The Domino Press and, together with Beth Elon, established The Harris/Elon Agency, which was later renamed The Deborah Harris Agency. Deborah has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Jerusalem International Book Fair for 20 years, as well as a founding board member of The Jerusalem Film and Television Fund. In 2011 she was presented with the Friend of Jerusalem Award. In 2018, Deborah was named Agent of the Year by the London Book Fair and The Publisher's Association.
Efrat has studied world and comparative literature at San Francisco State University and modern Jewish studies at St. Anthony’s College in Oxford. She obtained a publishing diploma from the University of California Berkeley Extension program. Efrat has worked as a bookseller and then in marketing for publishing houses in San Francisco (including HarperSanFrancisco & Jossey-Bass Publishers) and Israel (Hakibbutz Hame’uchad), before joining the agency in 1999.
Rena is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University’s Writing Seminars Program, she studied at Trinity College, Dublin and holds an MA in History from McGill University. She is the author of the cookbook EATING THE BIBLE (Skyhorse, 2014) and the novel, THE SISTERS OF THE WINTER WOOD (Redhook/Orbit, 2018) which was named "One of the 100 best books of 2018" by Publisher's Weekly. She has been at the agency since 2012. Rena is interested in representing Literary and Upmarket Women’s Fiction, Historical Fiction, Thrillers, Horror, and Science Fiction and Fantasy. She has a particular love for novels in verse. She accepts queries for Adult, Young Adult, Middle Grade and Picture Books projects and also works with illustrators.
Hadar is a graduate of Tel Aviv University (BA in Comparative Literature and Communications) and New York University (Ph.D. in Hebrew Literature, Post-colonial and gender studies). She manages the Israeli literature department at the Agency, representing new and emerging authors and abroad. She has worked as an editor at Black Dog & Leventhal, a small New York publisher specializing in unique non-fiction and reference books. In Israel, she served as the literary editor of the English journal Modern Hebrew Literature, and as a reader for Matar Publishing House. Hadar is interested in literary fiction, culinary writing, cookbooks and creative nonfiction in Hebrew.
Geula Geurts earned her B.A. in English Literature from Bar Ilan University, and is a graduate of the Shaindy Rudoff Graduate Program in Creative Writing. She hails from Utrecht, the Netherlands, finished high school in Cape Town, and has been living in Jerusalem since 2009. Her lyric essay, The Beginnings of Fire, was published by CutBank Books. She speaks Dutch, English and Hebrew. She's been at the agency since 2014. Geula is interested in literary fiction, creative non-fiction, lyric essays, memoirs and poetry.
Jessica recieved her BA in English Literature from New York University and her MPhil in Irish Literature from Trinity College Dublin. Before moving to Israel, she was an editor at the Wall Street Journal Book Review. She has previously worked at the Joy Harris Literary Agency in New York, The Irish Jewish Museum in Dublin, and Blue Man Group in Boston. Jessica is interested in literary fiction, serious non-fiction, memoir, historical fiction and picture books.
Ksenia has received her BA in Jewish Studies and Philology from the Moscow State University and her MA in Publishing and Language from the Oxford Brookes University. After graduating, she spent one year with the Institute for the Translation of Hebrew Literature in Tel Aviv, then moved to Moscow for five years to work as Acquisitions and Rights Manager at the Knizhniki Publishing House. Ksenia has experience working as a bookseller and social media manager. She has also been editing and translating as a freelancer throughout her career, and has had 15 of her Russian translations of Hebrew and English children’s and MG titles published. Ksenia is interested in literary and upmarket fiction and creative non-fiction, with an occasional children’s book. She works with titles in Hebrew, English and Russian.
Maria joined the Agency in 2023. She holds an MA in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics and has worked as a Foreign Rights Manager in a major publishing house in Moscow for three years before moving to Israel in 2022. Maria reads in Russian, English and French, and speaks Hebrew and some Finnish.
Talia was born and raised in Jerusalem, Israel. She was one of the youngest students to attend The Sam Spiegel Film and Television School, majoring in scriptwriting. In 2017, she won the Avraham Heffner Award. Talia also attended The Open University, majoring in Political Science and International Affairs. Today, Talia works with some of the most prestigious Israeli Production companies.
Shira holds a BA and a BEd from Bar Ilan University, both in Early Childhood Education. After several years of working as a nursery school teacher, Shira completed Bookkeeping I and II from Jerusalem's College of Management. Originally from Toronto, Canada, Shira currently resides in Jerusalem with her family.
