Sarai Shavit

Sarai Shavit is a poet, writer, literary editor and scholar, with two prose books and three poetry collections published to date. Her work has been translated into German, French, Arabic, Malayalam, Greek, Portuguese and Italian, and has appeared in various international magazines, including GrantaTabletPresence PoetryPlace de la Sorbonne, and Signaturen


Shavit has won the Tel Aviv Municipality Poetry Prize, the Goldberg Prize for Literature, Bessin Prize for Poetry, and special Adei Wizo Adelina Della Pergola Literary Prize. She is the winner of the USSC scholarship for excellent academic work and The Gisel Fellowship for Advanced Studies for her research on the concept of land in American literature. She has been a visiting lecturer at UC Berkeley and Cambridge University and at the University of Turin. She is an alumna of the Jerusalem Editorial Fellowship and a member of the European Union’s Cultural Entrepreneurs program. Since 2021 she has directed the residency program for emerging writers at Mishkenot Sha’ananim. 


Shavit currently lives with her family in Turin, Italy.
