Alexander Baunov

Alexander Baunov is a historian, political analyst, and senior fellow at the Carnegie Russia Eurasia Center. Baunov’s journalistic writing has appeared, among others, in The New York Times, Financial Times, The Wall Street Journal, Foreign Policy and Foreign Affairs. Baunov writes on a wide variety of topics, from the European economic crisis and the Arab Spring to the war in Ukraine and modern Russian ideology.


A classical philology graduate and a polyglot with 8 languages, Baunov has been living in Florence since the beginning of the war in Ukraine and in late December 2023 was declared foreign agent by Putin’s regime.
