Robert Ruby was born in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 1951. He graduated with a BA from John Hopkins University, where he studied Romance languages and Near Eastern history; he also obtained a MA from Northwestern University. Ruby has worked as the bureau chief in Paris and as the Middle East bureau chief in Jerusalem for The Baltimore Sun. He his now The Baltimore’s Sun foreign editor.

The author lives in Baltimore, Maryland.
